- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts optional
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Set aside.
Cream butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined. Do not overmix.
Add chocolate chips and nuts: Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
Scoop the dough: Use a tablespoon or cookie scoop to drop rounded dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake: Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.
Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
For crispier cookies, bake for an additional minute or two.
Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
You can substitute half of the chocolate chips with milk or white chocolate chips for a twist.
