Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Grease your baking dish.
  • Cube the stale bread and place it in the dish. Scatter the sliced peaches evenly over the bread.
  • In a bowl, whisk together milk (or milk + cream), eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon (if using), and salt until smooth.
  • Pour the custard mixture over the bread and peaches, gently pressing to make sure the bread soaks up the liquid. Let it sit for 10–30 minutes so the bread absorbs the custard evenly.
  • (Optional) Drizzle melted butter over the top or sprinkle a little sugar for a crispier top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 40–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out mostly clean.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm alone or with ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of sauce.
